Back in tha lab again, yo

Training is a tedious thing. That's it, right? A day, two days out of the office, a change is as good as a rest you think but once you get there, you're choking on your complimentary instant Nescafe and biscuit to escape the sheer boredom.
Training day. Often means a slight lie-in or a slightly early finish or even an extra hour of Me-time on the train with that novel you love which you never find time to pick up due to the daily grind. But when you get there, that extra short day of officially sanctioned "skive" stretches out like Chinese water torture.
When you start working for yourself, all that goes out the window. We mock those dumb americans with their "homeskooling" of their stupid sheltered offspring and the pisspoor knowledge of the world that they come away with but this is the grown-up world. Adult learning, retraining... Call it what you will, this is something you do for you and you alone. This is mine, for good or ill.
Something I've been doing a lot, lately. Reading improving literature, expanding my network, listening as much as posssible to the thoughts and views of some really smart people especially the ones who disagree with one another, especially those who seem only tangentially relevant to what it is you do. Apply what you like and what works and discard the rest. Try it out and see how it goes. You'd be amazed.
